The Best Sports Announcers

My husband and I have been discussing this topic for a few days now. In my humble opinion here is who I think are the some of the best in their respective sports:

Hockey - Gary Thorne

Basketball - Joe Tait

Baseball - Tom Hamilton, Matt Underwood, Craig Deas, Steve Lyons, Joe Buck is ok, Lou Pinnella

Football - Pat Summerall with John Madden, Mike Tirico, Howard Cossell

Golf - Mike Tirico, Jim Nantz

  1. I agree with most of your observations. Of course we have to account for home town bias. Everybody prefers the announcers they hear the most because they are most comfortable. A ballgame is supposed to be called like you first were trained to hear it. Having said that, Jim "Mudcat" Grant didn't make the list. (Due in part to Joyce's youth).

I loved the way Kurt Gowdy (spelling?)hosted "The American Sportsman". I think Vin Scully is an all-time great. I used to like Bob Costas. I now find him precious. (That is not a compliment.)

  2. It is turning into a barn burner! A most glaring oversight, Limber Joe. Especially when you consider how I entertain the household with my best Keith Jackson. Even when there is no game on.
